Mirka Mora tribute.
Artist and filmmaker Philippe Mora (Mad Dog Morgan) is producing a graphic novel about his late father, Georges, widely known in Melbourne as an art patron and owner of bohemian eateries Mirka Café, Café Balzac and the Tolarno Restaurant and Galleries.
Less known is Georges’ astonishing history as part of the French resistance during WWII, and how he and friend Marcel Marceau saved thousands of Jewish lives with a simple trick involving baguettes and mayonnaise.
Philippe traces his dad’s journey: from childhood to marriage – to acclaimed artist Mirka Mora – and the family’s dramatic Holocaust survival. Enormously enjoyable and hugely moving.
